Denver International Airport Support’s Compliance with the new TSA Security directive
August 20th, 2006 by admin
DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
MEDIA UPDATE
August 10, 2006 @ 5 a.m.
DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TAKES STEPS TO
SUPPORT COMPLIANCE WITH NEW TSA SECURITY DIRECTIVE
Travelers urged to put all liquid items in checked luggage
Denver International Airport has taken several steps to support compliance with the new directive from the Transportation Security Administration that prohibits all liquid items in carry-on luggage.
The TSA issued the directive early Thursday following the arrests in the United Kingdom of several people suspected of plotting to blow up aircraft flying from the UK to the United States. The TSA has raised the national alert level to orange, indicating its belief that some sort of threat against U.S. aviation still exists.
The directive states that liquids or gels – including beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel and similar items – will not be allowed through screening checkpoints. Concessionaires on the concourses can still sell such items, but have been instructed to tell passengers that the items cannot be taken aboard a plane.
As a result of the security directive, DIA is requesting the media’s help in notifying travelers to pack liquid items in luggage that they intend to check. In addition, signage has been posted along Peña Boulevard and at numerous locations throughout the airport advising passengers to transfer liquid items from carry-on to checked luggage before they reach the screening checkpoints.
The directive is likely to result in longer ticketing and screening lines, and passengers are advised to build extra time into their travel schedules.

August 18th, 2006 by admin
Denver Travel Fishing hot spot: Upper Gunnison River
From Denver Limo Aridetowncar.com
August 16, 2006
• Why here? The river above Blue Mesa Reservoir offers numerous fishing possibilities for rainbow and brown trout. Though rain can discolor the water on some days, overall conditions are excellent, especially for float fishing. • What's hot? Trout are taking a variety of dry flies, nymphs, streamer flies and small spinners. • Tackle box: Elk-hair Caddis, Western Coachman, Yellow Sally, Stimulator and Joe's Hopper flies; Mepps or Panther Martin spinners. • Best times: Insect hatches are better late in the day; or in the afternoon.
• How to get there: From Denver, travel southwest on U.S. 285 to its intersection with U.S. 50 near Poncha Springs. Turn right (west) onto U.S. 50 and proceed over Monarch Pass to Gunnison. Colorado 135 follows the river from Gunnison upstream to Almont; U.S. 50 parallels it downstream to Blue Mesa Reservoir.
• Ask the experts: Almont Anglers shop, 1-970-641-7404.

MEDIA UPDATE
August 7, 2006 @ 9:30 a.m.
DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT HANDLED 4,394,473
PASSENGERS IN JUNE, ITS BUSIEST MONTH EVER
Monthly total brings yearly increase to 11.1 percent
Denver International Airport recorded its busiest month ever in June with a total of 4,394,473 travelers. The previous busiest month was July 2005, when 4,275,728 passengers used DIA.
The June total was 323,186, or 7.9 percent, more than the 4,071,287 passengers recorded at DIA in the same month last year. June was the 14th straight month in which the airport set a monthly passenger record.
Through the first six months of the year, passenger traffic at DIA totaled 23,446,319. That was 2,339,622 travelers more than the 21,106,697 who used the airport during the first half of 2005, a year-to-date increase of 11.1 percent.
The six-month total also indicated DIA will set another traffic record in 2006, surpassing the previous record of 43,387,513 passengers set in 2005.
“These numbers show that more competition and more choice contribute to an increase in travel, Manager of Aviation Turner West said Monday. “This robust passenger activity is good for the airlines, the airport, the community and, above all, the consumer.
Flight operations rose 7.7 percent in June to 53,588. Through the first half of the year, DIA reported a total of 296,387 flight operations, an increase of 6.7 percent over the same period of 2005.

Denver Limo Service To Denver International Airport Resumes Regular Schedule
August 11th, 2006 by admin
Denver Internation Airport has resumed regular security activity after the terror level was elevated yesterday.
A Ride Town Car at aridetowncar.com has resumed regular transportation schedule and no need for early arrival
for denver tourists and denver business people. This was reported in a story from the Rocky Mountain News.
DIA back to normal
By Katie Kerwin-McCrimmon, Rocky Mountain News
August 11, 2006
Lines are less than five minutes at security checks at Denver International Airport today after people got the word yesterday not to bring liquids or lotions in their carry-on luggage.Yesterday, two dozen individuals were arrested in Great Britain for allegedly plotting to blow up planes headed to the U.S. by using bombs disguised in containers as common liquids or lotions.
It caused a red alert to be issued for inbound flights from Great Britain and an orange alert for all other air traffic.
Passengers about to board airlines had to dump their water bottles, hand creams and even expensive perfumes and liquor into barrels which the fire department then took out and burned.
Such items can be flown in the passenger’s regular luggage that is screened before being put in the cargo hold.
Chuck Cannon, spokesman for DIA, said this morning that lines around 6 a.m. were between five and 15 minutes, but the Transportation Security Administration opened up all screening stations and it dropped to about five minutes.
“They have barrels by each of the stations, but there is very little — mostly water and drinks — that has to be tossed away this morning,” Cannon said.
“I think the word got out pretty well yesterday and we won’t be seeing much passenger traffic through here until Sunday and Monday.”
He said TSA has called for mandatory overtime by scanners through Thursday and all lanes should be open.
Passengers in line this morning were mostly upbeat.
John Hegan was moving quickly when he said, “It’s not bad at all. I listened to the radio and know the lines weren’t long today.
“I figured it (the confusion) would blow over very quickly.”
Behind him, Sheila Weidner said, “I was hoping everyone would pay attention to all the warnings over the last 24 hours and it looks like they have.”

MEDIA UPDATE
July 20, 2006 @ 11 a.m.
WITH 4,149,295 PASSENGERS, MAY WAS
FOURTH-BUSIEST MONTH EVER AT DENVER AIRPORT
May traffic total surpasses 4 million for first time
Denver International Airport reported a total of 4,149,295 passengers used the facility in May, making it the fourth-busiest month in the history of the Denver aviation system. It was also the first time ever that passenger traffic in May topped the 4 million mark.
The May total was 473,377 higher than the 3,675,918 passengers who used DIA in the same month last year, an increase of 12.9 percent. May was the 13th straight month in which DIA set a monthly traffic record.
Through the first five months of 2006, passenger traffic at DIA totaled 19,051,846. That was 2,016,436 more than the 17,035,410 travelers who used the airport during the same period last year, an increase of 11.8 percent.
“These are extremely high traffic numbers, given the fact that the summer travel season really hadn’t begun yet in May, Manager of Aviation Turner West said. “Most airlines are reporting extremely high load factors, and all indications are that it’s going to be a very busy summer.
Flight operations rose 7.3 percent in May to 51,439. Through the first five months of the year, DIA reported a total of 242,799 flight operations, up 6.4 percent over the same period of 2005.
